Hong Kong, 15 December 2011 --- The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) today announced that Wing Cheung Hing Knitters (WCH) has won the Certificate of Excellence for the Green Achievement Award, the Certificate of Merit for the Community Engagement Award and the People Caring Award in the HSBC Living Business Awards 2011.

HSBC Living Business was launched in 2004 with the aim of helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Hong Kong increase their competitiveness and productivity by implementing corporate sustainability measures.  The programme features an award scheme, the HSBC Living Business Awards, which recognizes SMEs that have shown a determination to adopt socially and environmentally responsible practices in order to achieve long-term business success.

In concert with three strategic partners – The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, The Business Environment Council and The Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management – HSBC aim to bring attention to positive changes in corporate citizenship.  The annual awards scheme and regular knowledge-sharing activities form the key components of the HSBC Living Business programme.   The HSBC Living Business provide a wealth of useful information to help SME enhance their performance in environmental protection, employee management, community involvement and corporate governance, in easy-to-adopt and cost-effective way.

Materials and resources are used to facilitate work in the office or workplace. Different companies use different materials, depending on the nature of work they handle. Through proper managing and handling materials,and resources WCH have been able to increase productivity and enhance company's occupational safety performance.  The Green Achievement Award evaluate enterprise environmental management approach, environmental training and awareness, pollution control and reduction including waste, air, water and noise.  WCH environmental policy is able to increase company's productivity by recycle, reuse and reduce of materials and resources.

The Community Engagement Award assess enterprise policy on employment of the disadvantaged/ unemployed, employee volunteering and corporate giving, transfer of skills to non-profit organizations and partnership with non-profit organizations.  WCH has given back to the community by volunteering and donating money and time in doing community services, for example, visiting the underprivileged families, teaching elderly people computer skills, etc.
